John Wick 4: Director's Cut is on the way, with a massive runtime

It looks like a John Wick: Chapter 4 - Director's Cut is on the way, with a massive runtime.

Who wouldn't like to see more of Keanu Reeves as the charismatic assassin John Wick? If you want more, then you’re in luck.

Directed by Chad Stahelski, John Wick: Chapter 4 was released in cinemas in March 2023 and recently became available for home release, both digitally and physically. Even before its release in cinemas, John Wick: Chapter 4 was being hailed as one of the greatest action movies of all time. Moreover, with scores on Rotten Tomatoes of 94% and 93% from critics and audiences alike, it’s difficult to dispute that opinion.

Take a look at the film's trailer below.

During its cinema release, reports were making the rounds that a four-hour cut of John Wick: Chapter 4 was in existence. So with recent reports that an extended edition is on the way, fans have a reason to be excited. However, some might be pleased to know that we’re not getting a four-hour cut, as much as we love the breathtaking Keanu Reeves.

As reported by IGN (via CBM.com) the standard version of John Wick: Chapter 4 has a runtime of two hours and 49 minutes (with credits). This extended Director’s Cut version looks to add a further 10 to 15 minutes to the movie.

“I've been working on the Director's Cut, the extended cut, which we've almost finished,” said Stahelski. “There's about another, I think, 10 to 15 minutes we put back in.”

He continued: “We cut out a big chunk of Berlin, a whole character called The Frau, which is a pretty funny scene with John, and another scene between him and Tracker, a few other little action beats that we put back in.” When referring to the original cut of the fourth movie being just shy of four hours, Stahelski explained the process of cutting scenes ready for a final release of a movie.

“There's always stuff we take out because it doesn't fit the pacing," explained the director. “I think the stuff is all super quality, I love the choreo, I love the characters. It just didn't - as a whole, it changed the pace of the film, and I didn't think I could get, you know, two hour and 38-minute film in there if it felt slow. I think we got away with it because it felt driven, it felt like it was very purposeful, and I didn't want to upset that pace. And, if it has to go, it has to go.”

At the time of writing, the release date for the extended Director’s Cut version of John Wick: Chapter 4 is not available. In related news, Keanu Reeves will reprise his role as Johnny Silverhand in the upcoming expansion of Cyberpunk 2077, Phantom Liberty.
