In the least surprising news ever, one actor has officially confirmed his role as the next James Bond despite the levels of secrecy in place to hide it.

Announced during Sony’s latest State of Play event back at the start of the month, 007 First Light is an upcoming James Bond-inspired action-adventure video game developed and published by IO Interactive.

Despite being in development for the past five years, 007 First Light has remained a secret up until its unveil which also meant that the star who would be taking on the coveted role of James Bond has also come as a surprise.

James Bond will be played by Patrick Gibson in 007 First Light with the actor being best known for his role in Dexter: Original Sin.

As with the James Bond movies, the role of 007 is very sacred to fans and with no news of our next live-action spy, some fans believe it may be possible that Gibson could be our man.

That is because in the past, James Bond related video games have often used the actors from the movies, or at least their likeness so could this hint at Gibson’s involvement in any upcoming live-action project?

We can only speculate but what is most surprising about all of this is that whilst Gibson may have hinted at his involvement in 007 First Light, IO Interactive has technically not yet announced who will play their protagonist, despite the main character looking a lot like Gibson himself.

Although IO Interactive has not confirmed it, it seems as though Gibson pretty much has thanks to a recent interview with NCIS: Origins actor Austin Stowell for the print version of Emmy Magazine.

“I’m in London.,” said Gibson.

“I was shooting a video game and was doing mocap and had all these fu**ing dots on my head. I just hopped out of the suit […] I’m still in the studio.”

Unless Gibson just so happens to be working on another video game, we can assume he is talking about 007 First Light.

The highly-anticipated video game is set to be released some time in 2026 and will be the first time that fans have seen a much younger James Bond in action.
