Hogwarts Legacy slammed by iconic 'Can You Pet The Dog' Twitter account

Hogwarts Legacy slammed by iconic 'Can You Pet The Dog' Twitter account

Popular Twitter account CanYouPetTheDog isn't impressed with Hogwarts Legacy's latest marketing effort.

We’re officially two weeks away from the release of Hogwarts Legacy, if you’re a PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X/S owner that is. Unfortunately, the rest of you are going to have to wait a little bit longer before you embark on your wizarding journey.

Hogwarts Legacy is set to be an absolute whopper of a game. One developer has confirmed that it could take upwards of 120 hours for you to see all that the game has to offer which is no surprise when you consider that it has over 100 side quests. There are plenty who will be opting not to purchase Hogwarts Legacy though, namely due to author J. K. Rowling’s transphobic comments in recent years which left many fans feeling both disappointed and alienated. Hogwarts Legacy has now come under fire from the CanYouPetTheDog Twitter account as well.

Take a look at the latest cinematic trailer for Hogwarts Legacy below.

If you’re not familiar with CanYouPetTheDog, the account classifies itself as a “catalogue of pettable animals in video games,” which is the kind of wholesome content we love. In recent days, the account confirmed that the cat in Hi-Fi Rush is indeed pettable, as is the cat in A Space for the Unbound. CanYouPetTheDog isn’t impressed with Hogwarts Legacy’s efforts though.

Hogwarts Legacy does feature pettable creatures. In fact, the official HarryPotterFilm account tweeted a clip of a Hogwarts student petting a cat, tagging CanYouPetTheDog in the post. CanYouPetTheDog was not impressed by the move.

As reported by GamesRadar, the account’s owner, Tristan Cooper, quote-tweeted, saying, “This is a new low point for CYPTD. I put so much time into something that people like, only for it to be absorbed into the marketing machine benefitting an abominable terf. It's clear that some folks worked really hard on this, the animation looks great, but in the end the game lines the pockets of an awful yet powerful bigot who is at the forefront of the recent rise in trans hate. I just can't see how that's in any way redeemable.” Many were in support of the content creator.
