Wizards only just arriving in Hogwarts Legacy on Xbox One and PS4 should listen to this simple trick to make the infamous Merlin Trials a little bit easier.

That’s right, Xbox One and PS4 users can now explore everything the school of witchcraft and wizardry has to offer, with Nintendo fans having to wait a bit longer for the owls to deliver their acceptance letter. Aside from completing the main story and wandering the school grounds and surrounding areas, there’s a variety of side quests for new wizards to get stuck into.

The Merlin Trials are arguably the most infamous side quests found within the game, with a grand total of 95 trials scattered across the game. Players will need to conquer the trials and the puzzles they bring to upgrade the number of slots they have in their inventory, which can be really handy further into the game.

One variation of these trials are called Butterfly Trials, which require the player to cast the Lumos spell and lead three swarms of insects to a statue. It’s suggested that you tackle these trials at night, as the swarms let off a glow that’s harder to spot during the day. While these trials aren’t necessarily difficult, they are time-consuming, especially since there are quite a few of these trials to do.

Luckily, there’s a nifty little trick to make things go a bit quicker. Instead of the usual method of walking over to each swarm of bugs and leading them back one group at a time, you can actually collect all three around your illuminated wand and lead the job lot back to the statue.

This saves you from having to make multiple trips back and forth between the swarms and the statue, which is not only faster, but also makes the whole thing less tedious and boring. Just a little tip for wizards wanting to blitz through the Merlin Trials as quickly as possible.

Hogwarts Legacy is now available on PC, the Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and now Xbox One and PS4. A Nintendo Switch port is also on the way, releasing in July later this year.
