Being set in the Wizarding World, it will come as no surprise that Hogwarts Legacy is full of magical tricks to deceive our eyes but this particular trick of deception will likely please those with a major phobia.

Released in February 2023, and developed by Avalanche Software, Hogwarts Legacy is a dream game for fans of the Harry Potter franchise. Whether you’re being immersed in its main story missions, exploring the halls of Hogwarts Castle or visiting its surrounding areas such as the Forbidden Forest, there is plenty of joy to be had in this action RPG.

“Embark on a journey through familiar and new locations as you explore and discover magical beasts, customize your character and craft potions, master spell casting, upgrade talents and become the wizard you want to be,” reads the description of Hogwarts Legacy.

One of the best aspects of modern gaming is accessibility features which depending on the game and developer, will have a variety of options that cater for skill levels and disabilities, and Hogwarts Legacy is no exception.

One such feature is to help those who suffer from arachnophobia aka a fear of spiders. A mode like this is featured in the survival game from Obsidian Entertainment, Grounded. In Grounded, it turns spiders into unintimidating blobs.

Whereas Hogwarts Legacy turns spiders into mechanical-looking creatures on rollerskates. “This game made me realise my arachnophobia is funny,” said Redditor WetSockk00. “I underestimated the spiders and ended up having to put it on arachnophobia mode but I’m not complaining, just look at this dude on skates.”

“The skates are a nod to the movies and books when Ron's boggart is a giant spider, he visualises it to be on skates to banish it,” replied Lucifer2695. It is cool that the game has all these Easter eggs for Harry Potter lovers.

“I don't have arachnophobia but I turned on the setting anyway just to check it out and had to turn it off because seeing those spiders creeped me out,” exclaimed Crkhd3.

“I didn’t even know there was an arachnophobia mode - that’s good of them to add that for people who have a phobia of spiders,” said Froggymushroomfrog.

Hogwarts Legacy is out now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
