With Hogwarts Legacy cementing itself as the best-selling game of 2023, its sequel has a lot to live up to but according to a recent discovery, Avalanche Software may just be pulling out all the stops for Hogwarts Legacy 2.
Following the release of the Harry Potter-inspired RPG back in February 2023, it was not long before Hogwarts Legacy found itself a dedicated player base and, as a result, a sequel was announced shortly after.
However, there is no denying that Hogwarts Legacy has presented its fair share of problems both with its connection to J.K. Rowling and lack of content added after launch.
That being said, it seems as though Avalanche Software and Warner Bros. are set to learn from their mistakes as a recently discovered job listing shows.

Spotted by user CXNEILPUNKXC over on r/HarryPotterGame, Hogwarts Legacy 2 will be employing the help of Unreal Engine 5 as Warner Bros. Games searches for a Junior Level Designer.
The position requires the employee to “build and iterate prototypes of gameplay mechanics, systems and features using Unreal Engine 5 and Blueprints”.
They must also be able to “work with other departments to implement SFX, FX, missions, and other gameplay mechanics” whilst having a “passion for numerous console games and a knowledge of game mechanics across a variety of genres and platforms”.
With Hogwarts Legacy using Unreal Engine 4, it only makes sense that its developers will be upgrading and this also reassures us that the sequel is still in the works.

As a result, fans are feeling excited and took to the comments to share their thoughts on this latest development.
“I know the spell particle effects will look like absolute fire in Nanite. (Should they decide to use it). And Lumen should make the lighting and reflections of spells look gorgeous,” user Tonymbou shared.
“In any case, a better engine ensures that spells will receive an overhaul in how they look and behave in motion.
Honestly can't wait to see how they utilize UE5 for a vast open world like this.”

However, user horoscopical has other concerns.
“As long as the game is good I couldn't care less what engine is used,” they admitted.
“My problems with the first game were nothing to do with the engine.”
With some fans having previous issues with Unreal Engine 5, it remains to be seen if Avalanche Software and Warner Bros. Games will be able to optimise it efficiently.
