Hogwarts Legacy 2 is currently in development with Warner Bros, but its alleged setting isn’t what fans were hoping for.
It can’t be easy making a game for one of the most popular franchises on the planet, especially one that doesn’t follow its titular lead character but Hogwarts Legacy is a credit to the Harry Potter series.

The game isn’t going anywhere either, as a new version for the Nintendo Switch 2 is coming out this year, and then we can look ahead to the sequel.

What made Hogwarts Legacy so successful was how it made each player their own wizard, in a story set long before the events of the Harry Potter films.
It allowed for some creative liberties to be taken, but it sounds like the sequel won’t have that same luxury.
A report from Variety claims Warner Bros Interactive president David Haddad and the wider team are “coordinating some of the big-picture storytelling elements in the Hogwarts Legacy sequel with the storylines that will play out in the Harry Potter HBO series.”
The reboot series is due to begin filming sometime this year, and will retell the story of Harry Potter from the first story, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone all the way to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, across multiple seasons.

Fans haven’t taken too kindly to this, as it sounds like the next Hogwarts Legacy game will follow the story of Harry Potter rather than be its own thing.
“I liked how it was its own thing. I'm worried WB is going to fuck this up” read one fan’s take on the matter, with another adding “I’m just hoping it’s a continuation of ‘our’ story into year 6 at Hogwarts and not just a new set-up all together.”
We’re still a long way off Hogwarts Legacy 2 so plans could always change, but hopefully the sequel continues to tell its own story rather than reiterate one we already know.
