GTA Producer's New Game 'Everywhere' Might Include NFTs

Following its announcement during Gamescom's opening night, gamers have begun speculating that the new title may include NFTs.

Gamescom’s opening night kicked off yesterday evening with a whole host of exciting announcements, from the revival of Dead Island 2 (which is actually happening, and now has a surprisingly close release date, if you can believe it) to the reveal of New Tales From The Borderlands, and an exciting new trailer for Hogwarts Legacy.

The show commenced with a totally fresh title from Build a Rocket Boy - a new studio co-founded by former lead developer on the GTA series (from GTA III to V), Leslie Benzies. The game is called Everywhere, and it’ll apparently “seamlessly [blend] gameplay, adventure, creativity and discovery in an all-new multi-world gaming experience that redefines how players connect with one another and with the digital world around them”, according to its official site.

Take a look at the teaser trailer for Everywhere below.

Sounds pretty interesting, right? Well, as IGN writes, not long after the announcement, some people began tweeting out to raise awareness of the fact that the studio currently has a number of open job positions available as part of their blockchain team. While this doesn’t necessarily mean that blockchain elements (such as NFTs) definitely will be included, people have begun speculating that with claims to redefine “how players connect with one another and with the digital world”, and focus on “what it means to represent yourself digitally in a game”, the title may well incorporate them in some way.

If so, there’s no doubt that this would be contentious amongst gamers - you need only cast your mind back to the announcement of Ubisoft Quartz, AKA Ubisoft’s play-to-earn venture which allows players to collect NFTs. This went down so badly that the announcement trailer ended up being quietly removed from YouTube (although it seems to be back now).

As of now though, this is pure speculation - Build a Rocket Boy hasn’t currently responded to the situation.
