Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Rockstar Games’ parent company Take-Two Interactive, has accidentally let slip that Grand Theft Auto VI was indeed delayed for a third time.
The good news is that this third delay took place without fans knowing so GTA VI very much remains locked in to be released on 19 November.
Zelnick is doing the media rounds ahead of Take-Two’s next quarterly earnings call this week on 21 May.
During an interview with David Senra via his YouTube channel, Zelnick said that GTA VI was launching “18 months behind the original date, not much more than that”.
GTA VI was originally set to launch in late (or “fall”) 2025 before it was delayed to 26 May 2026.

The game was then delayed a second time to our current launch date of 19 November 2026.
If that 19 November date is situated 18 months after the original planned launch, it suggests that GTA VI was supposed to arrive in spring of 2025.
As you can quite obviously see, that’s at odds with the late 2025 date that was officially communicated by Rockstar Games.

GTA VI was then clearly delayed from spring 2025 to fall 2025 internally before the subsequent May 2026 and November 2026 delays were announced to the public.
The good news is that none of this matters now because we’re still locked into the current schedule.
In fact, it should put your mind at ease.
Rockstar Games has quite the track record of delaying games three times, so it’s perhaps nice to know that that’s already happened.
Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson has seemingly confirmed Zelnick’s omission after fans began to spot this clue pointing towards a third delay.
“Strauss also suggests here that GTA VI was originally due out May 2025, he says the game was delayed 18 months past its original date,” wrote Twitter/X user Cade_Onder.
They continued, “Seems to confirm speculation that the game was originally targeting spring 2025 but may have been delayed internally.”
“It was,” Henderson replied.
Today is set to be a big day for GTA VI with it widely assumed that Rockstar Games will announce and open pre-orders.
US retailer Best Buy issued an email last week offering affiliate partners 5% commission on pre-orders for GTA VI placed between 18 and 21 May.
The email was independently verified by Insider Gaming.
There’s plenty else happening this morning with both the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store receiving subtle updates.
On the PlayStation Store, GTA VI’s listing now states “Free Delivery” with various filter options having been added, although the filters are blank for now.
On the Xbox Store, GTA VI’s listing has been disappearing and reappearing with some tinkering clearly taking place in the back-end of the store.
An insider claims that Rockstar Games will reveal six versions of GTA VI, which is very apt.
There’s rumoured to be three physical and digital variants as well as two PlayStation console bundles and one pricey collector’s edition.
If pre-orders do open today, or if trailer three is finally released, we’ll bring that news to you.
