GTA 6 surprise announcement literally breaks the internet

Imagine being so hyped that you break YouTube

The latest Grand Theft Auto VI reveal has broken the internet in more than one way, which is absolutely unsurprising given how feral everyone online is being about it.

After months of waiting, Rockstar Games finally… delayed Grand Theft Auto VI until 2026.

On the plus side, they then followed up said delay with the long-awaited second trailer for the game. It was literally everything fans wanted and more, featuring a bunch of new story content (finally), some gameplay, and even a few snippets of extra content we can expect in the full release (like for instance, fishing!).

Given how desperate people were to see a second trailer for the game, it really shouldn’t come as any surprise that Rockstar Games’ decision to randomly drop it on 2pm on a Tuesday came with some unforeseen consequences (like for instance, crashing their own website).

You can watch the trailer below.

Immediately after the trailer dropped, Rockstar Games’ official website went offline intermittently due to the waves of people attempting to watch the trailer. It’s back up online now, thankfully, but it seems that it was impossible to access it for several hours at the time following the reveal.

The trailer also seemingly broke YouTube for a solid hour too, based on reports from several people who tried to watch it after news of its release first broke.

The view count immediately bugged out, although this is actually pretty common for YouTube, but more interestingly, the actual video itself became inaccessible for an hour after it was uploaded.

You could still click on the video and attempt to watch it, but hundreds of people reported that it wouldn’t load. I had to refresh the video like 20 times just to be able to watch it in glorious 480p because the stress on YouTube’s servers was clearly too much.

I’m starting to worry that every internet service provider is going to go down on the day of the game’s release, as everyone tries to install the update files at the same time…
