Fans think they’ve spotted something oddly PlayStation 6 shaped in the latest trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI, and they may be half right.
As I’m sure you know by this point, Rockstar Games dropped a new, second trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI yesterday, and at one point in the trailer you can see what appears to be a slightly futuristic looking PlayStation in one of the shots.
It’s sort of like a PlayStation 5, but different enough that many people are wondering if this is some kind of leak or reveal for a brand new model of Sony’s console… but unfortunately, that’s not the case.

While it would certainly be a pretty bold way to unveil the PlayStation 6, the console in question lacks any kind of Sony or PlayStation branding. Even the shot of the controller that you can see in the trailer looks a little bit too knock-off to be anything official.
You can see it for yourself below.
So, what’s the deal? Why is there a console that kind of looks like a PlayStation 5, but isn’t actually a PlayStation 5?

The answer is two-fold. Firstly, Rockstar Games can’t put a PlayStation in GTA VI officially, as I doubt Microsoft would be too happy about advertising their competitor’s system in the Xbox port of the game.
However, Rockstar Games and Sony have had a bit of a light partnership for a while now. Going all the way back to the launch of GTA V, Sony and Rockstar Games seem to have a sort of advertising exclusivity partnership that allows Sony to use PlayStation branding in their trailers.
Even the trailer for GTA VI specifically states that it was captured using a PlayStation 5, so clearly this partnership is still in full swing.
My guess would be that the knock-off PS6 featured in the trailer is just a cheeky way for Rockstar Games to reference this, without annoying Microsoft in the process.

At least, I hope that’s the case. I hope the PS6 doesn’t end up looking as ugly as that…
