This week, PlayStation fans were unexpectedly treated to a glimpse at a possible future console design; there's a fair bit to unpack here.
With the PlayStation 5 entering its fifth year, rumours have already begun circulating regarding the ongoing development of Sony's next-generation console, the PlayStation 6.

Although it has not yet been confirmed by Sony, we can safely assume that development on the PS6 is coming along nicely, despite the fact that the company has only recently released its mid-generation console, the PlayStation 5 Pro.

Whether we want it to or not, the PS6 will likely arrive in the next two to three years, but eagle-eyed gamers may have noticed a sneak peek of what we can expect for the future of the PlayStation.
It just so happens to come courtesy of the brand-new Grand Theft Auto VI trailer.
Released earlier this week and taking the internet by storm, the second official GTA VI trailer gave us an all-important look at what we can expect when the game launches in May 2026.
Not only that but at the 2:10 mark of the trailer, fans noticed a console at the home of protagonists Jason and Lucia that looks suspiciously like a futuristic PlayStation 5, or maybe even a PlayStation 6.

Sporting a sleek white look with nearby DualSense controllers, it looks to be either a variation of a PS5 or something new altogether.
As a result, fans took to r/SomeOrdinaryGmrs to share their thoughts.
“PlayStation 6 leak in the GTA VI trailer?” one user asked alongside a screenshot taken from the trailer.
“Maybe? I feel like it's more realistic that it's a spoof of the PS5, but I've been wrong before,” the top comment read.

However, user Stumme is not so sure.
“This is just the GTA parody of a PS5,” their comment read. “Why in the world would they tease the PS6 in the GTA VI trailer? And do you seriously think the PS6 would look that close to a PS5 with a controller that looks like it belongs to the PS4?”
My thoughts exactly. Rockstar reportedly has an exclusive marketing deal with Sony, so I wouldn't be surprised if this was nothing more than a tongue-in-cheek nod to that partnership.
You've got to admit though, it would be really funny if Rockstar did end up accurately predicting the PS6's aesthetic.

Regardless of what model this virtual console is, it does beg the question as to whether we will be able to interact with it in-game. GTA within GTA, anyone?
