GTA 6 official map is even bigger than we thought

The map of the highly anticipated GTA VI looks like it’s going to be even bigger than we originally thought.

I remember playing the first game in the Grand Theft Auto series on the original PlayStation in 1997, and being blown away by its sense of freedom and map size. Man, how things have changed over the years.

When GTA III arrived on PlayStation 2 in 2001, it set a new high standard for open-world action games. Liberty City was not only huge for its time, but it also looked great, had loads of fun activities, all of which was glued together by the captivating story and gameplay.

Since that time, the Grand Theft Auto series has continued its upward trajectory, with that trend set to further evolve when GTA VI graces us with its presence next year.

Last week, Rockstar Games announced the release date for GTA VI, and despite pushing it back out of 2025, fans were still hyped nonetheless.

Then yesterday, the second trailer for GTA VI dropped out of nowhere, and it was a thing of beauty. We don’t know for sure just how big the map of GTA VI will be, but we at least know it will be huge.

Following yesterday's new trailer reveal, several in-game regions were confirmed: Ambrosia, Grassrivers, Leonida Keys, Mount Kalaga National Park, Port Gellhorn, and Vice City.

With the map looking to be as big as it is, fans will no doubt want to enjoy the vistas that GTA VI has to offer from a distance, and that’s been a topic of recent discussion with fans.

“The draw distance is INSANE,” declared Reddit user Zairy47.

“Usually, far away models are reduced to low polygon and no shadows, but here we can see fairly detailed objects, like cars, traffic signs and lamp poles.”

“This blew trailer one out of the water,” said Ryanmooners, with tx_brandon adding, “And it was captured on PlayStation 5, not even PS5 Pro.”

“Incredible. I think this game is going to blow us all away when we land in Vice City,” replied eshields99.

Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on 26 May 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Rockstar Games hasn’t announced the PC version yet.
