Grand Theft Auto VI still doesn’t have an official release date, but Rockstar Games already has some competition in the form of a new game from… ex-Rockstar employees. Insert Spider-Man pointing at Spider-Man meme here.

MindsEye is a “AAA, story-driven action adventure” from developers Build A Rocket Boy, which was founded in 2016 by former Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies.

He formed Build A Rocket Boy alongside two other ex-Rockstar employees, Matthew Smith and Colin Entwistle.

Smith and Entwistle both worked on Grand Theft Auto V, with Smith serving as its audio director and Entwistle as its lead camera programmer. Both were also involved in the development of Max Payne 3, Red Dead Redemption and L.A. Noire.

Let's not forget that GTA VI is on the way next year too.

Build A Rocket Boy is also teaming up with IO Interactive to publish the title, who are probably best known as the developers behind Hitman 3 and Kane & Lynch: Dead Men.

They’ve also released a teaser trailer for the game alongside the press release on Build A Rocket Boy’s official website. Gotta say, based on the trailer alone, I’m already kinda digging it.

The press release on Build A Rocket Boy’s site describes MindsEye as “an epic new blockbuster journey set in a unique world” and promises that you’ll run into “futuristic vehicles and weaponry, corporate and government conspiracies, and sinister new technologies” during the course of your playthrough.

The reception for the new release has been pretty positive too. User Yazzu987 on the r/EverywhereGame subreddit stated, “This game is the most confusing thing ever but I love it and can’t wait to see more.”

Now, you’re maybe wondering why I linked a post from the subreddit for the game EVERYWHERE here… and that’s probably what’s led to some of the confusion regarding MindsEye online.

EVERYWHERE is an MMO that Build A Rocket Boy is also developing alongside MindsEye. EVERYWHERE’s main selling point is its focus on user-generated content, which has led some to believe that MindsEye is set within EVERYWHERE’s world.

Unfortunately, neither of the two games actually have release dates so we may have to wait a while to find out if that theory proves to be true.
