GTA 6 releasing on new-gen consoles only, says insider

Insider Tom Henderson claims that GTA VI will only be releasing on new-gen consoles - this might be why the game is taking so long.

At this point, it’s starting to feel like GTA VI is a myth, or an elaborate hoax constructed by Rockstar Games to see how excited gamers can get about a game that they’ve not even seen a trailer for.

Even though we’re yet to see anything official about the upcoming Grand Theft Auto title, a leak appeared online in September last year which contained loads of gameplay videos from the game - admittedly from very early in its development. Even so, from these videos, the location and protagonists for GTA VI have seemingly been revealed. Rockstar Games confirmed the legitimacy of the leak when it first surfaced, and stated that the data had been illegally accessed in a network intrusion.

Take a look at what GTA VI might up end up looking like with this GTA V Vice City mod.

Unfortunately, we still have very little idea when GTA VI is actually going to release. Recently, one insider suggested that it could be late 2024 or early 2025, and when you consider that this September it’ll have been a full decade since GTA V came out, that’s a huge wait.

Now though, another prominent insider, Tom Henderson, has suggested it could be even later, and that it'll completely skip a previous-gen console release. He wrote (via Insider Gaming) that he expects GTA VI to be delayed until holiday 2025, so many, many months later than was recently suggested. He believes that we could get a reveal trailer in Q4 this year.

Allegedly, one of Henderson’s sources says that the reason why the game has been pushed back so much is because of the fact that it’ll be releasing solely on new-gen consoles. Reportedly, this wait was to make sure that the game would be releasing to a big enough console market and sell well despite being offered on less platforms. Considering the PS5 and Xbox Series X’s stock issues that overshadowed their releases, it’d make sense that Rockstar would want to hold fire until everything was ironed out.

As with any unofficial information, do take this with a pinch of salt for now. If Henderson’s claims are true, hopefully we can look forward to a trailer in a few months.
