Speculation on a GTA VI feature may run the risk of being an utter nightmare, but at the same time, it could be awesome.
To say that when the next entry in Rockstar Games’ ever-popular series, Grand Theft Auto, graces us with its presence, social media will go into a meltdown, and that’s probably putting it mildly.
We’re still months away from the release of GTA VI (assuming its release date doesn't get delayed), and it’s already a near-impossible task to avoid talk of the game online.
Heck, GTA VI has been practically impossible to avoid ever since those infamous gameplay leaks spread like a virus. That being said, those leaks were taken from an early build of the game, and they pale in comparison to GTA VI trailer two that was released a few months ago.

Yet, despite those leaks and being treated to two official trailers, there’s still a lot we don't know about GTA VI. We know that it will star two protagonists, Jason and Lucia, and we know that at least one of its locations will be the returning Vice City. The rest is pretty much speculation at this point.
Speaking of speculation, fans are getting excited over the prospect of GTA VI having a dynamic weather system, details that were previously leaked. However, if the developers at Rockstar Games get this wrong, it could be an absolute nightmare.
As the name suggests, dynamic weather in GTA VI could exist as its own entity, almost as if it had its own AI. For example, you could play the opening hours of GTA VI, then start a new game, and the weather of the next two hours could be completely different.
The dynamic weather could also affect gameplay in the best way. Much like how weather changes the terrain with flooding in Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, the streets of Vice City could be flooded, especially during stormy weather on the coast.

Likewise, a snowstorm in the winter would not only be the prettiest sight in GTA VI, but it would instantly impact how vehicles would manoeuvre in its world. Fans on Reddit have been discussing such a prospect.
“It will be interesting to see how Rockstar Games implements surfing physics in the game,” wrote cyleline, kicking off the discussion on the thread.

“If we get any floods, I don't think they'll be dynamic but more like a story event, like at some point during the game, a hurricane hits the area, leaves it flooded and damaged for some time, and over time, you'll see it return to normal,” suggested Bazbazza.
“Something like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, after the opening fight with Sandman, you see piles of sand everywhere, eventually it goes away after so long,” replied CategoryDry4060.
“Plus, it'll be a pain in the ass to deal with them if they're procedurally generated,” added mighty_and_meaty. “Using a flood as a story device or set piece would make for a compelling quest/mission.”
“Dynamic hurricanes and floods would be awesome, but they would have to make them rare, so that they're more special than annoying,” said OMEGACY.

As much as a technical masterclass, dynamic weather could be in GTA VI, if done wrong, it could become a buggy nightmare. But I do have faith in Rockstar Games to get it right, at least, eventually.
Grand Theft Auto VI is currently scheduled to be released on 26 May 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Its PC port hasn't been announced yet.
