AI has become increasingly frightening over the last few years, as we've moved from a distorted version of Will Smith aggressively mashing spaghetti into his face to a world where it's genuinely difficult to tell what's real and what isn't.
That phenomenon has unfortunately extended out into the world of video games, where AI is doing everything from writing code for developers to ripping off whole games in an instant.
As the most highly anticipated game of the last decade or more, GTA VI was always going to fall victim to the shenanigans of AI in some form, and it seems that has really started to ramp up as we get closer to the year of release.
As first reported by IGN, "leaks" for GTA VI are popping up everywhere at the moment, only that's not actually what they are. Instead of actual gameplay footage making its way out into the world via someone with light fingers, it's actually just an AI generated approximation of what we're going to get.

This glut of fake videos hasn't done anything to improve the mood of a community that is desperate to get their hands on the game, with many pretty sick of waiting at this point.
GTA VI Fans Have Had Enough of AI Videos

Across Twitter/X, there are a ton of profiles sharing "gameplay" leaks of GTA VI, that they're either confirming as AI or trying to pass off as potentially the real thing to improve their engagement on the platform.

Fortunately, the responses identify the videos for what they are for the most part, even if they aren't happy about it. "If GTA VI does end up looking like this after all these delays its gonna be disappointing AF. GTA V with heavy modding looks better than this," one comment read.
"SO fake and the graphics are insanely terrible! This would not have fooled me!" another added.
A third comment identified a crucial point, saying, "I figured because my first thought was Lucia wearing the same pants from the old real leaks was strange."
The latter is important because it tells us exactly how the video was made, by using a real leaked image from 2022 as a prompt to get an AI generator to produce a short gameplay image.

In any case, we're all sitting tight for a third trailer or something concrete from Rockstar ahead of the new release date in November 2026 (please), so probably best not to trust much else in the meantime.
