When Grand Theft Auto VI was first revealed, it was believed no game could come close to competing with it, except for one.
Rockstar Games is pouring its heart and soul into the next Grand Theft Auto game and while those release date delays demoralised many, it was obviously in service of the greater good.
Recent interviews with Take-Two Interactive’s CEO imply its latest 19 November launch date is locked in, and there’s even a tease for what could be coming next once the game is out.
GTA VI will likely stand unchallenged and yet the game’s original competitor has somehow returned with a vengeance in addition to a price cut.
It was theorised that if any game could compete with GTA VI’s original release date, it’d be MindsEye.

When the game launched, we all quickly realised that wasn’t the case as both critics and players slated the game online. It was buggy, repetitive, and altogether dull, but it had potential.
Aside from the obvious similarities to Grand Theft Auto and Cyberpunk 2077, the MindsEye game got a lot of attention for its studio, Build a Rocket Boy.

Build a Rocket Boy is led by Leslie Benzies, the previous president of Rockstar North so many gamers were expecting something big, possibly even a Game of the Year contender.
This couldn’t have been further from the truth but the game isn’t dead yet. In fact, all of the hate it got online has only spurred the team on to update it with new content, whilst also blaming the game’s failure on vendettas and sabotage.
The new free update is called Blacklisted and sees players become a new character called Julia Black. It’s believed this DLC is a rework of the planned Hitman crossover teased in the game’s marketing.
Those who’ve played it reckon it’s the second-wind MindsEye needed to become the game it was always meant to be.
“This is the most incredible content I've ever played” said Gtamen on X, before adding, “GTA 6 is in trouble.” This could be laced with sarcasm. It's hard to tell at this point.
A similar sentiment was carried to the official MindsEye X page, but the social media team were quick to say, “We're just focused on making MindsEye the best it can be! Plenty of room for great games out there.” Maybe gamers really do like MindsEye.
To coincide with the new expansion, MindsEye has also been given a permanent price drop to sweeten the deal further.
Initially, the game was available for $60 but from now on it’ll be priced at $35 instead. Whether that’s a better deal is up to the player but it’s at least an improvement.
However, will a shiny new DLC and price cut fix the game’s many problems? While the game’s quality was what initially killed its chances of success, any hope of a comeback was stomped with Build A Rocket Boy’s response to the criticism.
Favour has definitely been lost with gamers and while the developers seemingly have high hopes of a comeback, it feels like a lot of the damage has already been done.
