GTA 6 fans beware, the alleged $100 price tag theory has resurfaced, and it’s causing a bit of a stir in the community.
We all know that Grand Theft Auto 6 will cause such a huge monumental shift when it launches in May next year, and fans are holding their breath for Rockstar Games to announce the pricing model for the game.
Fans have speculated on everything from how much the game will cost, to the various editions that Rockstar will release with it. With the amount of clout that the company has, it seems that nothing is off the table at the moment.
The $100 price tag theory has cropped up before, where fans and industry analysts reckoned that Rockstar would be able to charge a three-figure price for GTA 6 without suffering any damage to its profit margin.

GTA 6 just has that kind of effect, I guess. And while it seems unlikely that this will be the case, it’s a rumour that keeps cropping up regardless.
“Does anyone else feel like other companies are desperately rooting for GTA 6 to be expensive so they can justify charging $100 for their games too?” writes one fan on the GTA 6 Reddit page, fearing that this may trigger a new trend amongst games publishers.
It’s a theory that isn’t completely unfounded, for what it’s worth. When I was a young lad, you could get a brand new triple-A game for £40. Nowadays, those prices have inflated to £60, or even £70 in some cases. The new Mario Kart costs £75, for heaven's sake.
So, publishers potentially upping the price to £100 definitely doesn’t feel like it’s out of the realm of possibility. We’ll see, shall we?

“Yes that’s obviously what’s happening, that’s why the Outer Worlds 2 originally announced a launch price of 80 USD right after Mario Kart World’s price was revealed before being shouted back down to 70,” writes a user in the replies to the post.
“If they do it once it opens the floodgates,” warns another user.
“Yes but imo, $100 for ANY game is outrageous,” another writes.
It’s easy to point the finger at inflation as a reason for these increased prices, and that’s certainly a big reason why games cost a lot more than they did a decade ago.

However, it’s also worth pointing out that wages have stagnated in comparison. Everyone is a lot poorer in comparison to how they were in 2015, and that’s going to have a knock-on effect on the affordability of games, consoles, and other hobby-related items.
