It may have been over 10 years since we first experienced Grand Theft Auto 5’s ending but that doesn’t mean discussions over which multiple choice ending made the most sense canonically are anywhere near over.

Released way back in 2013, Grand Theft Auto 5 told the story of three men: Franklin, Michael and Trevor who the player is able to switch between throughout the game’s story.

Could GTA 6 also have multiple endings? Check out the trailer below!

With each offering their own unique talents, personalities and levels on the chaos metre, being able to switch between them made for some unique gameplay for the Rockstar Games title.

As a result of this, Grand Theft Auto 5 features three different endings for the player to choose between: kill Trevor, kill Michael or find a way for all three men to live.

Depending on which option you choose, a subsequent mission will follow and the game will end. However, players are still debating to this day which ending made the most sense canonically and it seems as though there is a definite answer.

The third option, allowing all men to live during the mission “The Third Way”, has long been considered as the canon ending to GTA 5.

This is mainly because of the fact that Trevor, Michael and Franklin show up in various ways throughout the events in Grand Theft Auto Online. The topic was recently discussed on r/GTAV with the original poster saying: “What was the true canonical ending for GTA 5?”

Many fans soon came forward with their input but it seems as though option C still makes the most sense to this day which suits me as I could never bring myself to kill either Michael or Trevor.

It remains to be seen if Grand Theft Auto 6 will also have a multiple choice ending but for now, let us just wait to finally get the long-awaited title in our hands.
