Classic Grand Theft Auto titles are “at risk” from being delisted from certain storefronts amidst a crackdown on mature content.

As you’ll likely have heard, the UK recently enacted The Online Safety Act which essentially seeks to make it more difficult for young internet users to engage with mature, harmful, or inappropriate content.

Already, Xbox has unveiled that users in the UK will soon need to verify their age in order to continue accessing social features from early 2026 with an accompanying warning stating that this system will soon roll out to other territories.

Well, many sites are being pre-emptive, introducing age verification methods before other countries follow the UK’s lead.

According to PC Guide, Zoom Platform, a PC storefront akin to GOG, is one such destination being warned over its adult content.

We’ve already seen Steam and itch.io removing titles deemed to be too inappropriate; Zoom Platform has, to date, been less pro-active.

In a statement, the site said as follows: “As you are likely aware, there have been a number of adult title de-listings across the industry. One of our payment processors made us aware that a ‘fellow member of the industry’ was concerned about our content.”

It continued, “After we heard from the payment processor, we immediately engaged in lengthy discussions with both PayPal and Stripe. We worked with our contacts at the aforementioned payment processors to develop a tripartite solution to ensure the right to free speech and freedom of expression as well as protect the safety of our valued customers and partners.”

It later confirmed to GamingOnLinux that “Grand Theft Auto, Duke Nuken, and Saints Row were potentially described as at risk.”

Of course, these games would only be removed if age verification systems aren’t put in place, so the ball is in Zoom Platform’s court.

And it goes without saying that even if Zoom Platform did have to remove these titles, they’d remain readily available elsewhere.

Personally, I think it’s a good thing that websites are starting to take age verification more seriously.

It’s easier than ever to access whatever you want, really, and that could be very harmful to the younger generation.
