Watch the game showcases, pray for a God of War: Ragnarök release date, hear absolutely nothing it. God, life’s relentless. The highly anticipated follow-up to the excellent God of War (2018) has been sat tantalisingly on the horizon for some time now, but it’s definitely got to the point where fans are worried that the supposed 2022 release might not actually be on the cards anymore.
I mean, you can’t say that it’s not concerning. We’re halfway through the year now, and the lack of official updates on a nailed-down date looks suspicious, to say the least. There’s been plenty of rumours circulating, suggesting that the title might not release until next year instead, which the game’s producer has weighed in on in the funniest way.

As reported by GamesRadar+, things kicked off over on Twitter when the original creator of the series, David Jaffe, tweeted out his frustrations regarding the game’s lack of release date: “[Remember that] Sony insider pal who said GOW:R 2022 was still on? Well ANOTHER Sony insider pal texted me today saying it’s no longer locked in and the release is tbd,” he wrote. “Maybe 2022; maybe not. So f**k if I know: 50/50 at this point. Man, when they gonna announce that date?!”
Santa Monica Studio’s creative director and the producer of Ragnarök, Cory Barlog, then quote retweeted Jaffe’s tweet, simply writing, “wait, what?”, along with a GIF of Kratos stepping out from the darkness. He then replied to his own tweet with another GIF, of Ryan Reynolds smirking. Please, Barlog, just tell us what you know.
Obviously, he’s hinting at something, but it’s so vague that it could mean anything. Last week, one insider claimed that the title could be releasing as soon as November, which would be incredibly exciting, and I’m sure we’d all love to see it. Hopefully, if nothing else, Barlog’s tweet could suggest that we’ll be hearing something official soon - we’ll have to remain patient for now.
