Last week saw Santa Monica Studio celebrate the 20th anniversary of God of War by offering fans the chance to get their hands on some epic in-game cosmetics.

First released way back in 2005, God of War introduced us to Spartan warrior Kratos as he battled his way across ancient Greece.

Thanks to the success of the Santa Monica title, the God of War franchise went on to welcome eight more instalments across multiple platforms, despite being something of a flagship series for PlayStation.

However, its success did not begin and end in the early 2000s as in 2018, Santa Monica Studio returned with God of War, a title which rebooted the series and was followed shortly after in 2022 with God of War Ragnarök.

Taking the players to ancient Scandinavia rather than the original setting of ancient Greece, the reboot was another hit so it is no wonder that fans were happy with the latest offerings to celebrate the franchise’s 20th anniversary.

As a way to thank fans for all of their support over the years, Santa Monica revealed that it would be adding an original God of War-inspired skin to the game, as well as multiple other cosmetics for Kratos, Atreus and Freya.

With weapon and shield skins as well as a skin based on one of the original Kratos’ look, fans were happy and they recently took to r/GodofWar to share their thoughts.

“Ahhh, it’s peak!” One post read with a screenshot of the skin in question.

User alexj100 commented, “Very cool! I hope they continue adding more classic costumes like ashless Kratos and the GoW2 God Armor.”

Another user added, “Both the armor and the axe look so good in these shots, and of course the skin itself (didn’t realise they made a Young Kratos version of it too!)”

The skin can be found throughout loot chests in God of War Ragnarök so make sure you grab it and celebrate the anniversary in style.
