Ghost Of Yōtei is an extraordinary game, and one that’ll definitely be a contender for this year’s Game Of The Year awards, though I’m sure it’ll win in many other categories too.
While the story is purely fiction it does take a lot of inspiration from real-world times, places and people to craft its open-world, one of which is a legendary swordsman some players might recognise.
“I knew I recognised the name," said Reddit user Haddonfield_Horror, along with a screenshot of the Takezo The Unrivaled fight.
I’m sure many other players also recognise the name as he’s been responsible for countless deaths across thousands of playthroughs. It will take all of your strength, skill, concentration and willpower to defeat him, as he’s certainly not a pushover.

What you might not know though is there’s a reason this fight is so tough, it’s because he’s based on the real-life swordsman, strategist and writer Musashi Miyamoto.

Like in Ghost Of Yōtei he was a master of dual-blade combat, and is said to have gone undefeated in all 62 duels he participated in.
Musashi Miyamoto’s birth name was Takezo, which is why he’s named as such in the game.

He was also known for his intelligence, art and writing, with some of this most recognised work being The Book of Five Rings.
With that kind of history it’s no wonder the developers made him such a difficult fight in the game, though upon learning of his lore some players are actually a bit gutted that he can be beaten at all…
“I just wish Atsu didn't kill him. Defeat him, yes, then he retires and writes The Book of Five Rings so that finance bros of the future have something to quote after they run out of Art of War quotes” read one of the comments.

Another said: “When he showed up with that ‘vagabond’ name in the captions I had suspicions.
"But then he started using the oar and had his ‘five teachings’ and I was grinning like an idiot.”
One more fan pointed out how the 'first fight is at Sasaki cove which was a big giveaway as well, as the duel between Sasaki and Musashi is probably his most famous'.
It’s an incredibly cool addition to the game, and hats off to the team at Sucker Punch Productions for going an extra mile with the history whilst also creating something fun for players to enjoy.
