If you’re extra keen to jump into Ghost of Yōtei as soon as possible, then great news: you can download it on PlayStation 5 right now (as long as you don’t mind paying ahead of time).
The follow-up to Sucker Punch Productions' 2020 banger Ghost of Tsushima is almost upon us, and the hype is very much real.
Ghost of Yōtei has been getting some absolutely stellar review scores, netting itself an 87/100 average on Metacritic and an 88 Top Critics average on OpenCritic. For comparison, that puts it just ahead of the original PlayStation 4 release of Ghost of Tsushima, which netted an 83/100 average on Metacritic.
With all this hype building, it should be no surprise that it also currently holds the title of the number one most pre-ordered game on the PlayStation Store in over a dozen countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, Brazil, France, and Germany.

That’s probably why Sony has opted to open up downloads a little early, because they likely want to avoid a repeat of the Hollow Knight: Silksong debacle that crashed the PlayStation Store (as well as both the Xbox Storefront and the Steam Store).
However, you’ll have to jump through one very specific hoop if you want to download the game early, but I’m sure it’s one you won’t mind doing anyway if you’re planning to buy the game anyway.
That’s because gaining access to the pre-download requires you to pre-order the game, allowing you to install the PlayStation 5 title ahead of its October 2nd release date.
Just be warned that, in case the term “pre-load” didn’t make it obvious, this only allows you to install the game early. You won’t be able to boot the game up until its official release date at the start of next month.

I only say this because one poor soul over on the r/ghostoftsushima subreddit got a bit too excited about pre-installing the game, thinking that it meant they could boot the game up. At least the folks in the comments weren’t too mean about it.
Also, the filesize for Ghost of Yōtei comes in at around 85 GB, so you'd better clear some space ahead of time. That also likely doesn’t include the day one patch, so there’s a solid chance that you’ll need to leave a little extra room to install the rest of it.
Here’s hoping that guy’s employers in the Reddit post don’t know his account name. On the plus side, at least he’ll have lots of time off to play the game if they do.
