Jin Sakai is returning in the 2025 Ghost of Tsushima sequel, as revealed during today’s State of Play, but his appearance probably isn’t what fans were expecting.
The iconic protagonist of Ghost of Tsushima is back, although developer Sucker Punch has found a rather unexpected way to bring Jin Sakai into Ghost of Yōtei. Whatever you were expecting, this probably wasn’t it, but it’s still pretty awesome.
Jin Sakai will be playable in Most Wanted, a brand-new single-player, wave-based survival mode with roguelike elements coming to Ghost of Yōtei. The new mode gives players another way to experience Sucker Punch’s samurai adventure, with a focus on surviving increasingly relentless waves of enemies.
In Most Wanted, players will be able to customise their builds to give themselves the best possible chance of survival, while earning powerful perks and taking on bounties. There will also be opportunities to unlock additional playable characters, giving players plenty of reasons to return for another run.
Is Most Wanted in Ghost of Yōtei free?
Advert
No, unlike the previous co-op wave-based mode, ‘Legends’, the Most Wanted mode is not free. It’s included as part of the upcoming Ghost of Yōtei: Complete Edition, which includes the single-player expansion, Echoes of Sekigahara, which takes place after the events of the main game.
Ghost of Yōtei: Complete Edition will have an RRP of £69.99/$69.99, or you can upgrade from the base game for £11.99/$14.99. Ghost of Yōtei: Complete Edition will launch on October 1, 2026.

We reviewed Ghost of Yōtei!
“I will say that Erika Ishii’s delivery as Atsu is quite dry compared to Daisuke Tsuji’s Jin Sakai, but I feel that’s by design. Atsu is very blunt, sarcastic and, at times, a little bit cocky. Under that tough exterior, however, is a woman who just wants to show love, and Erika Ishii captures that tone with their performance wonderfully,” I said in my review.
“Ghost of Yōtei is pure cinematic brilliance, and Sucker Punch Productions deserves to be commended once more for knocking it out of the park and, in some ways, topping its predecessor. I’m somewhat torn between this and Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, but without question, Ghost of Yōtei is one of the absolute best games of 2025.”
The Ghost of Yōtei base game is out now on PlayStation 5. Ghost of Tsushima is available on PC, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
This might not be the Jin Sakai return that many fans were hoping for, but at least it feels like Sony and Sucker Punch are acknowledging that there’s still plenty of love for the Ghost of Tsushima protagonist.
For now, we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed for a proper return of the Ghost in a full-fledged game, even if that means waiting until the PlayStation 6 era to see Jin Sakai wield the sword once again.
