Ghost Of Tsushima and Ghost Of Yōtei are two of the strongest games PlayStation has put out in recent memory, so obviously a third game is inevitable.
It was very strange leaving Jin Sakai behind after Ghost Of Tsushima, but in many ways it did Ghost Of Yōtei a lot of favours having a new protagonist in the form of Atsu.
Erika Ishii did a phenomenal job bringing the character to life, leaving audiences captivated by their story of vengeance as well as transfixed by the beauty of the open-world.
Sony recently reported that Ghost Of Yōtei sold 3.3 million copies in just one month, an impressive feat considering it took Ghost Of Tsushima four months to sell 5 million copies.

It’s even more impressive when you consider the price difference. Ghost Of Tsushima was a PlayStation 4 game and as such wasn’t nearly as expensive as its PS5 upgrade and eventual follow-up.
We do need to consider that Ghost Of Tsushima was a new IP when it launched, so there was always going to be some hesitance from consumers to jump in whereas Ghost Of Yōtei could be carried by an existing audience.
Either way it’s still very impressive and Sony is right to consider the game a colossal success for 2025. These sales have all but confirmed that a third game will be on the way sooner or later, but before that we’re probably due some more DLC expansions for Ghost Of Yōtei.

What can we expect from the next Ghost game?
We’re trying to use the word “sequel” lightly here as technically speaking Ghost Of Yōtei wasn’t a sequel to Ghost Of Tsushima. So far the series has been more like an anthology, so I’d imagine the third game will follow its predecessors with a brand-new protagonist and story, likely set in a different time period.
There is potential for crossover though, and the series could surprise us with the third game being about Jin again.
Personally I think this would hurt the series in the long run, as players could jump into Atsu’s adventure with no prior knowledge of what came before, and as a result felt better for it.
If the third game requires new players to do their homework it might do more harm than good, as while Ghost Of Tsushima is an excellent game no one wants to sit through a AAA game just for the sake of context right?
