Ghost of Yotei Creator Teases Next Game, Time to Get Hyped

Sucker Punch isn't done yet

Sucker Punch Productions has rightfully secured its position as one of the most well respected and consistent developers in the industry, with the release of Ghost of Yotei cementing the positive opinions of many in the community.

That game received near-universal praise from existing fans, new players and critics, with many drawing particular attention to the stunning visuals and super tight gameplay that builds on the solid foundations of the original Ghost of Tsushima.

As such, it's only fair that those who made the game a reality take some time to reflect on their achievements and hint at what's to come next, as the studio seeks to strike whilst the iron's hot and capitalise on the momentum it's built.

In an interview with VGC at the Tokyo Games Show, Sucker Punch Productions head Brian Fleming took the opportunity to do just that, and the answer to what comes next is a little more up in the air than you might expect.

"The truth is that whatever we do next, whether it’s continuing Ghost or going back to Sly, the decision is really more limited by, again, our cherishing of focus and time to iterate, which means that we really can only do one thing at a time. If we were good at juggling four projects, yeah, we’d have a remaster, and let’s go do one of those, and one of those, and do some fan request, that would be really popular. But we only get to do one thing. So it kind of has to be your best idea, right?" Fleming said.

Sly Cooper was a series of beloved stealth action-adventure video games featuring an anthropomorphic raccoon, who also happens to be a thief (hence the name). The news that the series could make a return, or even that one of the developer's other beloved properties like InFamous could do the same, will undoubtedly be very exciting to many fans.

The issue comes with the fact that, whatever they do choose, two series will be left behind for another development cycle. There are likely ways they could take on additional investment and expand, but it sounds like the potential damage to the quality of the final product is more than enough to dissuade Fleming from doing so.

Whatever we do end up getting, it's going to be several years from now at the very minimum, so get to working through that pile of shame while we wait for more news.
