Today marks the launch of the long-awaited Ghost of Yōtei and to celebrate the arrival of the Ghost of Tsushima sequel, PlayStation is marking the occasion with some free downloads.
Following the success of 2020’s Ghost of Tsushima, fans have been eagerly anticipating the sequel, Ghost of Yōtei, and, at long last, it is finally here.
Developed by Sucker Punch Productions and acting as a standalone sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yōtei will follow the story of Atsu, a wandering mercenary who becomes a vengeful onryō in a quest to hunt down the "Yōtei Six" who killed her family 16-year prior.
Our very own Richard Lee Breslin was lucky enough to review Ghost of Yōtei ahead of its launch and described it as “a powerful revenge-driven tale”.

“Ghost of Yōtei is pure cinematic brilliance, and Sucker Punch Productions deserves to be commended once more for knocking it out of the park and, in some ways, topping its predecessor,” his review read.
“I’m somewhat torn between this and Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, but without question, Ghost of Yōtei is one of the absolute best games of 2025.”
Now to celebrate the launch of the PlayStation 5 title, Sony is giving fans the chance to get their hands on seven PSN avatars featuring various characters from Ghost of Yōtei.
This includes Atsu herself and various members of the "Yōtei Six" including The Snake, The Kitsune, The Spider, The Oni, The Dragon, and Lord Saito.

To claim the freebies, you will have had to grab the standard edition of Ghost of Yōtei and then head into your PlayStation 5 settings.
Whilst in this tab, head to Users and Accounts > Account > Profile > Avatar.
You should then be able to see the Ghost of Yōtei PSN avatars at the top with seven to choose from (dependent on if it was the most recent game downloaded on your console).

At the time of writing, Ghost of Yōtei currently sits at an 87 Metascore based on critic reviews, making it one of the most highly rated games of 2025 so far.
With many critics claiming that the sequel improves on the already incredible Ghost of Tsushima, it is perhaps no surprise that it will rear its head at December’s The Game Awards.
Ghost of Yōtei is now available to play on PlayStation 5.
