A former audio developer at Runescape studio Jagex has been sentenced to just under two years in prison for a sexual assault on a schoolgirl under 13 years old.

Cambridge Independent (via NME) reports that young girl told a family member about the assauly, which is believed to have happened in the early hours of December 21 last year. Ian Taylor, a 53-year-old audio developer who had worked on Runescape for over 20 years, admitted to "sexually touching" the girl during an interview with police. Taylor alleges he was drunk and "depressed" at the time of the offence. He was then charged with assault.

Taylor has been sentenced to one year and 10 months in prison, and has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years. He's also been handed Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) for the same length of time.

NME reports that Taylor departed Jagex in March 2021. The company has issued a statement in response to the news of their ex-developer's offence and sentencing.

"Jagex expects the highest standards from its staff and we act decisively if those values, that we hold dear, are not reflected in the behaviour of employees. The person in question no longer works at Jagex, and was dismissed when the circumstances of the allegations came to light in March 2021," it said. "We have conducted an internal review of the employee's interactions with staff and any players he may have come into contact with during his time at Jagex. We have found no evidence that might prompt further investigation at this time."
