'Red Dead Redemption 2' Players Have Only Just Noticed The Inspiration Behind Game's Cover

In case you happen to miss the gaming sensation that was Red Dead Redemption 2 it's very much a Western film-inspired game. It's got everything from the train heists to the small towns and their people, to the wild horse-riding and gun-waving. Yee- and I cannot stress this enough - haw, and all that. But it's taken forever for some players to realise that the true inspiration for the cover of Red Dead Redemption 2's artwork is directly inspired by a Western film star too.

A fan of the game on the Red Dead Redemption 2 subreddit was watching the 1971 action film, Dirty Harry, for the first time and suddenly caught a glimpse of the pose that Arthur sports on the front of the Red Dead box. Though not a Western itself, Dirty Harry stars Clint Eastwood, one of the most famous actors in the era of Western media, like the series Rawhide.

The moment that inspired the front of Red Dead's cover is one of the most famous film clips of all time. Harry Callahan, played by Westwood, shoots at a car that crashes before approaching one last assailant. He then has a little monologue about how many shots he's fired (five or six) before asking the important question - "You've got to ask yourself one question - do I feel lucky? Well, do yah punk?"

While talking about his handgun and the chances of the man surviving a bullet to the head, if he does indeed have one last bullet, Clint Eastwood is posed with the gun pointing at his enemy. This shot is the one that makes it to the front of the game which is a nice little Easter Egg for anyone that didn't know that already. In other Red Dead Redemption 2 news, a player has finally solved the decade-old bear claw camp mystery.
