'Assassin's Creed Valhalla' Finally Adds Weapon Players Have Been Asking For Since Launch

When Assassin's Creed Valhalla launched late last year, it did so with a variety of brutal Viking weapons for players to choose from. Skull-splitting hammers, devastating two-handed swords, fatal flails - a veritable smorgasbord of ancient weaponry.

With so much variety on display, it came as something of a surprise to players that one thing they couldn't do was wield a one-handed sword. While hardly a deal-breaker, it was something of a shame that players couldn't go full Arthurian Knight and patrol England with a sword in one hand and a shield in the other. I opted for a hammer and shield in the long run, but I would have liked to have had the option to equip one of the most basic staples of fantasy RPGs... especially given the numerous NPCs that were able to flaunt their one-handed blades right in front of us.

The good news is that Ubisoft has heard your cries, and will be adding one-handed swords in a future update. YouTuber and streamer Jorraptor recently spoke with game's post-launch producer, Jose Araiza. When asked if we'd ever see one-handed swords in Valhalla, the producer confirmed that it's coming. He also added that the team didn't think it'd be such a popular quest, meaning the developers want to take their time and get it right so it doesn't just feel like a re-skin of a different type of weapon.

There's no concrete release date for the swords yet, but Araiza said that they're "currently in the works". Keep an eye out in future updates.

While this might not seem like the biggest deal for those of you who have already moved on from Valhalla, the game's dedicated community of players is thrilled. Over on the Assassin's Creed subreddit, a post detailing the confirmation of one-handed swords sits at nearly 2,000 upvotes. Evidently, a ton of fans are super excited to start New Game+ with a brand-new type of weapon at their side.
