Elden Ring has had a huge year. It’s undeniably a Game of the Year contender and if we’re all perfectly honest, it’s probably going to win. Even if Horizon Forbidden West or Pokémon Legends: Arceus were more your speed, you cannot deny the cultural impact that Elden Ring has had. For a good few weeks, it was all the gaming community could talk about.

As such, you’d expect that FromSoftware would want to ride that wave of success for as long as they could but up to now, we’ve heard very little of what they’re planning next. If you are desperate for more content, an incredible fan-made DLC is on the way but something even more epic could be just around the corner as FromSoftware have officially teased that updates are coming to Elden Ring - and they’ve almost finished working on their next game.

Have you ever wondered which of Elden Ring’s bosses is the most powerful? Check out this incredible boss battle royale below.

President of FromSoftware Hidetaka Miyazaki recently sat down with 4gamer and revealed the studio’s upcoming plans, namely that FromSoftware are already in the “final stages” of development on their next game. The interviewer noted that FromSoftware previously announced that they had three games in the works and we now know two of those were Sekiro and Elden Ring. Miyazaki then responded confirming the third game still exists saying, “Yes. Development is also in the final stages.”

Whatever FromSoftware’s next title may be, the interview suggests it’s been in development for at least five years. Despite Elden Ring’s success, it may not be a direct sequel as Miyazaki said deciding whether to create a sequel or a new IP is decided on a “case-by-case basis” as the studio is led by whichever game they “want to make”.

There is some Elden Ring content on the way though as Miyazaki confirmed that updates on Elden Ring “will continue into the future”. We’re not exactly sure what form that might take but it sure does sound like an Elden Ring DLC could be coming. Either way, Miyazaki has given us lots of new tidbits to tide over.
