Forget GTA 6, one fan thinks GTA 8 is about to drop

With Grand Theft Auto VI on everybody’s minds thanks to the upcoming trailer, one fan is seemingly skipping even further ahead by predicting Grand Theft Auto VIII.
It has been a crazy couple of months for GTA VI fans after dealing with rumoured announcement dates coming and going and then finally receiving official Rockstar news that a trailer will be arriving early December. The trailer in question will be our first look at what we can expect from the next Grand Theft Auto instalment and the excitement is palpable.

However, for one fan, they may be looking a bit too ahead after taking to r/GTA6_NEW to share their theory. Alongside a screenshot of all the past Grand Theft Auto titles, ranging from Grand Theft Auto in 1997 to Grand Theft Auto V in 2013, the poster says: “Horrible Take: it’ll be called GTA 8. They’ll skip six and seven and just call it [GTA] 8 since it’s the eighth game in the series. Yes, I’m aware this theory is horrible and I should be ashamed for posting this.”
Although it seems a bit far-fetched, stranger things have happened and the theory led to other contributors taking their own guess at what the sixth instalment might be called. “What if they oversimplify the name so much that it'll just be called 6?” read one comment. With GTA VI being perhaps one of the most anticipated games of all time and the franchise being a household name, they could kind of get away with it.
It is just a couple of weeks to go until Rockstar will be releasing the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI (or VIII) and as you can imagine, the wait is causing ridiculous amounts of hype. After years of speculation and rumours, we will finally get some answers then it is back to waiting until the game finally releases sometime in the future.
