Far Cry officially returning bigger than we've ever seen before

Will Far Cry give Ubisoft a big win?

Ubisoft hopes to revive Far Cry and its other leading franchises in a big way, but is the publisher being too optimistic?

In March 2025, Ubisoft sold a 25% stake to Chinese tech company Tencent in a deal worth a reported €1.16 billion (£965,000,000). The deal included some of Ubisoft's leading IPs, such as Assassin’s Creed, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six, and Far Cry.

“As we accelerate the company’s transformation, this is a foundational step in changing Ubisoft’s operating model that will enable us to be both agile and ambitious,” said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot.

“We are focused on building strong game ecosystems designed to become evergreen, growing high-performing brands and creating new IPs powered by cutting-edge and emerging technologies.”

This, of course, will result in Ubisoft and Tencent giving the aforementioned franchises a huge push. After all, Ubisoft will want to do its best to give Tencent a great deal, and Tencent will want to make the most out of its huge investment.

As reported by TweakTown, Guillemot recently said during an investors call, “What we really want is, of course, to make these three big brands become billionaire brands on the Euro, yearly basis, first with Rainbow Six, then Assassin's Creed, and after that, Far Cry, that will first need to get to the multi-billion euro level.”

It’s no secret that the Ubisoft stock value has been in decline in recent years with a net value of over $3.5 billion in 2022 shifting to a $1.7 billion net value in 2025, a drop of 41%.

Will the Tencent deal change the fortunes of Ubisoft in the years ahead? Only time will tell.

At the time of writing, the next entry in the Far Cry series has not been officially announced, but when that information drops, we’ll be sure to update you right away.

As for its other big franchise, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is out now on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
