While we wait for the arrival of Far Cry 7, this Far Cry 4 fan-made expansion should help keep you busy.

Alongside the likes of Assassin’s Creed and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six, the Far Cry series is one of Ubisoft’s biggest properties, entertaining its fans since its inception in 2004 on PC, before spawning multiple sequels and spin-offs across generations.

The last game in the series is 2021’s Far Cry 6, which starred Giancarlo Esposito as its latest signature villain, who had also starred in the likes of Breaking Bad and The Mandalorian.

Sadly, Far Cry 6 wasn't the best game in the series, as reflected by its Metacritic score of 73 from critics and a mundane 5.4 from users. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a bad game, it’s just a bit, meh, with its tried and tested formula growing a bit stale for some.

Thankfully, however, despite having much of the same gameplay mechanics and checkbox open-world elements, the classics such as Far Cry 3 and Far Cry 4 have aged surprisingly well, which probably has a lot to do with the fantastic villains, if nothing else.

What’s more, much like many other games, outside of the Ubisoft series, playing on PC grants you access to tons of mods that breathe new life into the game, whether it’s new story content, weapons and gear, visual improvements or bug fixes. The modding community has you covered, and Far Cry 4 is no exception.

One such mod is called ‘Golden Path’, created by a talented indie team available for free right now via Far Cry Modding. The mod in question makes tons of bug fixes, improves the visuals, as well as makes some unlockables easier to access.

“Far Cry 4 is an all-around well-built game. It is considered by most to be one of, if not the best, games of the Far Cry franchise,” reads the description of the mod. “But, alas, not all games are perfect. The Far Cry 4 Golden Path Mod aims to fix that and make the Far Cry 4 experience so much better.”

Sadly, as is the case with most mods, ‘Golden Path’ is a PC exclusive. However, you can still enjoy Far Cry 4 as intended on PlayStation and Xbox.

Hopefully, mods such as this one will keep us busy until Far Cry 7 arrives, whenever that time might be. When that information drops, we’ll be sure to update you.
