Far Cry 7 delay met with support from fans

Far Cry 7, along with other upcoming Ubisoft games, received a slight delay last week as Ubisoft revealed its slate of games have been pushed back to “FY2027-28”.

In a statement from Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot, the company’s biggest games currently in production will be pushed back to the 2027-28 financial year to ensure a higher quality result.

“Additionally, after a review of our pipeline, we have decided to provide additional development time to some of our biggest productions in order to create the best conditions for success”, Guillemot said in the report.

Assassin's Creed Shadows was recently a big hit for Ubisoft.

“As a consequence, FY2026-27 and FY2027-28 will see significant content coming from our largest brands.”

In addition to the next Far Cry game, this update from Ubisoft presumably also includes new Assassin’s Creed games, as well as the upcoming remakes of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell.

Considering some of those titles have already been in production for years, with The Sands of Time originally supposed to be launching back in 2021, it’ll still be a while until you see new games in these big franchises.

Over on Reddit, fans are supportive of the delay, citing Ubisoft’s recent output as a reason to take the time to improve the quality of its upcoming titles.

“Good if true. Ubi hasn't exactly had a lot of wins lately,” wrote one user on the Far Cry Reddit page. “Waiting and working more on their upcoming slate is the best thing they can do.”

“This is good news. More time in the oven is always a good thing,” wrote another fan.

“I would rather see them experiment with smaller projects and determine the market they want to make games for,” another fan pitched.

“All of the games in each series feel more like Ubisoft games than part of their respective series.”

As we’ve seen over the years, a delay in itself isn’t necessarily an indicator of quality. Duke Nukem Forever was infamously delayed many times over a 13-year period, and the end result was met with lukewarm reception from critics and fans.

But other titles like Red Dead Redemption 2, The Last of Us Part 2, and God of War Ragnarök also received small delays and still ended up being universally loved.

So, it all comes down to how well Ubisoft can manage the production of these games in the wake of the delays. Considering the positive reception to Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which was delayed several times, I’m sure the company is taking notes.
