Far Cry 7 leak slammed by fans: 'hard pass from me'

To be fair, this doesn't sound like a Far Cry game anymore

A leak regarding some very specific gameplay elements for Ubisoft’s next (unannounced) Far Cry game is giving a lot of players pause (that joke will become funny later), even though personally I think it sounds kinda cool.

Alright, let’s backtrack a little. Last year, rumours hit the internet that Far Cry 7 is going to introduce a mechanic that no other game in the series has featured: a time limit.

In short, supposedly the player will be tasked with saving every member of an extremely wealthy family, but you’ll only have somewhere between 24 to 72 hours to complete said task.

Now the “24 to 72” hours bit is slightly vague, I know, but from what I can figure out it would be 24 hours of real-time and 72 hours of in-game time.

Well, now that the r/farcry subreddit has discovered this information… opinions sound extremely mixed.

“Personally, I like that they are trying to come up with something new, but I am very skeptical about the whole game being on a time limit,” commented user Tinths.

“One of the things I like best about the Far Cry games is the opportunity to explore and do things at your own pace, and personally I hope this is something they choose not to implement.”

Ubisoft will next launch Assassin's Creed Shadows.

“I'll save my disappointment until I hear more verified details, but if indeed there is a timer on gameplay, it'll be the first FC game I won't play,” replied user NarrowButterfly8482.

“The FC6 DLC that was roguelike was not for me at all. Like you, I love being able to explore and do side content. It would seem that a timer would mean that the game is a radical departure from the FC formula (which I love even though some folks find it repetitive).”

I very much understand people’s opinions on this one, as nothing like this has ever been featured in another Far Cry game but, I’m personally open to the formula getting shaken up a little.

Here’s hoping Ubisoft has an official announcement somewhere around the corner though, because details about this game feel like they’ve been leaking since 2022 at this point.
