It has been almost four years since the latest Far Cry entry was released but since then, Ubisoft has yet to announce the next instalment and fans are starting to feel worried.
Since it was first released back in 2004, the Far Cry FPS series has become one of Ubisoft's top three franchises alongside Assassin’s Creed and Rainbow Six.
Consisting of six mainline entries and multiple spin-offs, Far Cry has built a legion of fans so it is no wonder that many are calling out for Far Cry 7 to be revealed, especially as Far Cry 6 was not considered one of the best by any means.
Until now, Far Cry 7 has been the subject of the rumour mill with some leakers even suggesting that the story could follow a wealthy family known as the Bennets who will engage in a power struggle similar to the events of Succession.

Of course, this rumour should be taken with a pinch of salt but it does seem like an interesting concept indeed.
However, a recent paywalled post by Stephen Totilo recounts the comments made by Ubisoft CEO during a Riyadh conference.
“On the future of Ubisoft's Far Cry series, which hasn’t had a new installment since 2021’s Far Cry 6 but is one of the three big franchises (along with Assassin’s Creed and Rainbow Six) that will be managed in Ubisoft’s new Tencent-backed spin-off company.
The goal, “on Far Cry, it’s really to bring the multiplayer aspects more predominantly pushed, so that it can also be played for a long time by players."

Up until now, the Far Cry franchise has mainly consisted of single-player gameplay and although multiplayer aspects have been included, they have taken more of a backseat.
However, it seems as though Ubisoft has different plans for Far Cry 7 and it is a decision that not a lot of fans are happy about.
“Well goodbye Far Cry series,” Reddit user RodneyRuxin18 wrote following the multiplayer news.
With some fans believing that this will give Ubisoft the chance to add monetisation into the game, it is no surprise that the rumour is gaining so much backlash.

“Of course it will, so they can cram it with more MTX/skins/season passes/battle royales,” one user shared.
It seems as though the general consensus is that the Far Cry franchise is pretty unrecognisable these days compared to how it began back in the early 2000s and this is not a path that the OG fans want to follow Ubisoft down.
“Sounds like another franchise Ubisoft is going to ruin. I miss when they just made good games,” another user posted.
Of course, the report by Stephen Totilo has not been confirmed by Ubisoft so it is worth taking with a pinch of salt but with Far Cry 7 still yet to be even announced, it could be a while until we hear official information.
