Far Cry 7 update isn't what fans wanted to hear

Unfortunately, it may be for the best

Ubisoft has just announced that several of its biggest IPs will be getting pushed back to “FY2027-28”, and it sounds an awful lot like Far Cry 7 is among the games affected.

In their most recent 2024 - 2025 earnings report, Ubisoft’s co-founder and chief executive officer, Yves Guillemot, revealed that some of their “biggest productions” will be getting pushed back.

“Additionally, after a review of our pipeline, we have decided to provide additional development time to some of our biggest productions in order to create the best conditions for success”, Guillemot stated in the report (per Insider Gaming).

“As a consequence, FY2026-27 and FY2027-28 will see significant content coming from our largest brands.”

Although no titles are specifically mentioned in Guillemot’s statement in the earnings report, a later section in the report detailing Ubisoft’s new partnership with Tencent makes notes of franchises such as Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed.

Assassin's Creed Shadows benefitted from its multiple delays.

“As part of this transformation,” reads the report, “Ubisoft announced in March the creation of a New Subsidiary which will play a pivotal role in accelerating the growth of three of its most iconic IPs, Assassin’s Creed, Rainbow Six, and Far Cry, that are well positioned in high-growth markets like Open World and LiveOps and served by a very powerful five-year line-up to come.”

It’s not an exact confirmation, but when you think of Ubisoft’s “biggest” IPs, there are only two franchises that immediately spring to mind.

Still, the report isn’t all doom and gloom. In fact, it sounds like the delays are in some way influenced by the success of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which the report specifically states is the reason that Ubisoft had a much better financial year than anticipated.

It seems that they’re now more than willing to delay titles to improve their quality, as they’ve finally realised that shipping good games will result in increased sales.

Man, you didn’t need to do a whole report for that, Ubisoft. I could have told you that for free.
