Fallout 4 players on Xbox and PlayStation consoles are getting a massive update on 27 May, though the former is getting special treatment, it seems.
When it launched in 2015, Fallout 4 was a great game. Sure, everyone prefers Fallout: New Vegas and many prefer Fallout 3, but you can’t deny that the fourth game had its merits.
It slowly got better over time, too with some decent DLC expansions and official mod support.
On 27 May, modding on consoles is getting quite the overhaul, though Xbox Series X/S owners are getting the best version of the update.
Bethesda announced a while ago that the console Creations storage capacity was to be increased for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 owners.

The company reiterated its update plans in a recent Reddit thread, along with how players can get prepared for its arrival.
Creations storage on the Xbox Series X|S is getting the biggest increase. From 27 May onwards, you’ll have up to 100GB to play with which is more than enough for most modders.
However, the PlayStation 5, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will only see an increase of up to 15GB.
That’s quite the difference, and a real kick in the teeth for PlayStation users who’ll have far fewer options when they want to mod their next playthrough.
These rival platforms should fight about it later though, as for now you should pay attention to any of your playthroughs that currently have mods active.
Bethesda has warned that the new update could affect the load order of your mods, and steps will need to be taken to save them so your playthroughs aren’t lost.
It’s easy to prepare, though as all you need to do is navigate to the Creation Club, select the Load Order Menu tab, then Load Order Archive and finally Save Load Order to Bethesda.net. Simple.
Once you’ve done that your save files should be protected when the update rolls out tomorrow.
If you’re wondering why there’s such a massive difference between the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation storage boosts, keep reading.
Xbox isn’t getting special treatment because it owns Bethesda. The difference is actually entirely down to PlayStation.
Unlike Xbox, PlayStation has far more limitations on modded content allowed on its platform. Stuff like outside assets are usually not allowed and while the company is clearly loosening up with this new update, don’t ever expect mods to be supported on the same level as Xbox.
When all is said and done though, the new Fallout 4 update looks like exactly what console players have needed. Just be sure to follow the above steps to provide your load order and keep those playthroughs going.
