Fallout players are concerned by the newly announced re-release of Fallout 4, as it could render the game unplayable for thousands.
Fallout Day has come and gone and if you were waiting for Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas to get a remaster I’m afraid it just wasn’t your day.
Fallout: New Vegas got a mention at least and a swanky new collector’s edition but no remaster, and Fallout 3 didn’t get mentioned at all.
What did get mentioned was Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition, a new, complete version of the 10 year old Bethesda game coming to Xbox, PlayStation and PC platforms this November, and the Nintendo Switch 2 next year.

It contains all of the DLC in addition to over 150+ Creation Club products packaged in, which is fan-made content that are basically mods you can still use on console.
While that’s all fine and dandy Fallout players were mortified, as many predict this new release will cripple the current modding community.

Say Goodbye To Your Save Files
“So is this going to f*** up modding again like the Next-Gen update,” said Fallout fan RequirementTall8361 on Reddit.

For those who don’t know when the new-gen update for Fallout 4 dropped last year a bunch of people’s mods suddenly stopped working, and even worse reports came in that entire save files were rendered unplayable by the update with no hope of fixing them.
It’s feared the Anniversary Edition of Fallout 4 will do the same thing, and players are already bracing themselves for its impending release.
“Probably, just turn off auto updates on steam and don't launch the game from there until enough time has passed for a decent amount of mods to be updated” replied one of the comments.
Other comments had players exhibiting what can only be described as PTSD, thinking about all the mods that’ll need to be changed to work with this new version of the game.

It was also compared to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition where the exact same thing happened, as these new versions of Bethesda games aren’t standalone releases they’re just glorified updates.
The only exciting part of this new version of Fallout 4 is it’ll finally bring the game to Nintendo platforms, and I’m already wondering what performance will be like on the Nintendo Switch 2.
Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition is dropping sooner than you’d think on 10 November, with the Nintendo Switch 2 version coming sometime later in 2026.
