As with any open-world RPG, there are always going to be secrets that can take years to discover.

That is definitely the case for Fallout 3, which despite first being released sixteen years ago, has still managed to hide quite an incredible secret.

Check out the official trailer for Fallout 3 below!

Launched in 2008 as the third instalment in the Fallout series, Fallout 3 was the first in the series to be developed by Bethesda after the company acquired the rights from Interplay Entertainment.

The entry was met with critical acclaim and is often regarded (by some) as the best in the series due to its excellent storytelling and fun gameplay.

Perhaps another reason it is regarded so highly is due to its eclectic open-world, especially after a recent discovery by one modder.

Posted over on r/gaming, one user has shown us quite a bizarre discovery.

“Still one of my favourite hidden secrets/details about Fallout 3!” They wrote.

This came alongside a screenshot stating that a modder had discovered that the train in Fallout 3 was actually an NPC wearing a metro hat.

You will have to see it to believe it.

I guess this did the job well but it is still an hilarious secret to come across and fans agreed.

“Someone cosplay this,” one suggested.

Another said: “Devs do weird a** workarounds all the time. It's just you rarely find out about them.”

It does get you thinking about what else could be discovered in Fallout 3 almost twenty-years on and if workarounds like this were featured in this entry, why not the others?

For now, Bethesda is hard at work on Fallout 5 despite the next instalment not expected to arrive for quite a few years.

However, with the second season of the Fallout television adaptation arriving soon, we will at least have something to fill the void in the meantime.
