Elder Scrolls 6 trailer released to appease the fans, ironically

Well, that backfired

Bethesda fans will know that news surrounding the development of The Elder Scrolls VI is few and far between as, despite the game being announced back in 2018, we have yet to receive any further updates.

However, according to a former Bethesda developer, this is not how Todd Howard and the rest of the dev team would have liked to have started the journey of the next The Elder Scrolls instalment.

Check out our only The Elder Scrolls VI footage below!

Announced at 2018’s E3, The Elder Scrolls VI will mark the first TES instalment since The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim so it is no surprise that fans are eager to hear more.

However, with no news since the teaser trailer was dropped, worry is starting to set in.

That being said, according to former Bethesda developer Bruce Nesmith, announcing the game early was a way to appease fans, and not what Howard and the team would have preferred to do.

In reality, Howard and the team prefer a short amount of time between the game’s announcement and its release but felt pressured to reveal TES VI further in advance.

Speaking to MinnMax, who left Bethesda during the development of Starfield, Nesmith had the following to say:

“[Bethesda] took years of hits for not talking about Elder Scrolls 6.

Todd [Howard’s] opinion – one which I share by the way – is that the videogame industry has short memories.

Those companies that start touting their games years ahead of time, they screw themselves.

The best time to start talking about it is six months before release.”

It has already been six years since The Elder Scrolls VI was first announced and the game still shows no signs of a release so it is pretty ironic that Howard announced it early to appease fans.

“Only the fact that the pitchforks and torches were out got Todd to say ‘Yes we’re going to do Elder Scrolls 6, it’s for real it’ll happen.’” Nesmith continues.

“But I’m betting you don’t hear much in the way of details until six months before release, which is the way it should be.

I think that’s the best approach and [Howard’s] proven that works really well, at least for Bethesda.”
