Elden Ring was and still is a historic video game, and arguably the greatest game of the last decade, so far anyway.
We’ve spent years embarking on new playthroughs, reading the lore, and theorising what it all means when put together, as like most of FromSoftware’s work, a lot of is open to interpretation.
With a world like that, it was only a matter of time before it got the big-screen treatment and today, new details on the Elden Ring film were officially announced.
Written and directed by Alex Garland in collaboration with A24, the Elden Ring film has officially begun filming according to the new announcement. It’s said filming kicks off in Spring 2026, and we’re already several weeks in.
Some behind-the-scenes shots captured by fans have been popping up here and there too, giving us a distant look at some of the sets and costumes that have been made for the production.

Earlier today the full cast was unveiled, and it’s packing some pretty big names. The full list includes:
Unfortunately, the characters these actors are playing weren't confirmed; a shame, because it’d give us a good idea of when the film will be set in Elden Ring’s timeline.
Our money is on Peter Serafinowicz playing Patches.
One popular fan theory is it’ll be centered around Vyke, a Tarnished warrior who came close to becoming Elden Lord but chose love over power, refusing to burn his maiden which would have seen him transported to Farum Azula.

Alongside the cast announcement, the film’s release date was also shared. With production underway this year, the Elden Ring film is scheduled to release on 3 March 2028, so fans unfortunately have a long wait ahead of them.
That also means we’re a long way off a teaser trailer too, as there won’t be enough footage just yet.
It’ll be worth the wait though. Alex Garland has spoken at length about the Elden Ring and his passion for it, and we can only assume the cast have at least some admiration for it too.
As I’m sure every FromSoftware is aware by now, Elden Ring isn’t the only FromSoftware game getting adapted for the silver screen.
Recently, it was announced that beloved YouTuber Jacksepticeye would be producing a Bloodborne film in collaboration with Sony.
GAMINGbible spoke to Jacksepticeye at the BAFTA Games Awards last Friday, with the YouTuber sharing his thoughts and fears on the upcoming adaptation.

While Elden Ring will be live-action, Bloodborne will be animated, and while the latter is yet to get a release date, there’s a slight chance both films will release in the same year.
Like Bloodborne, there’s a lot of pressure on the Elden Ring film’s shoulders to be a solid depiction of FromSoftware’s iconic Lands Between. Here’s hoping it delivers.
