'Battlefield 2042' Is Being Rethought "From The Ground Up" By EA

In their latest earnings call, EA admitted that there's "more work" to do on Battlefield 2042, and that the team is currently rethinking it.

Just short of half a year on from Battlefield 2042’s release, it’s getting increasingly difficult to find anyone out there who’s still persevering with playing it. From the horrendous bugs that plagued the game at launch, to the content that appears to be straight up missing, EA really haven’t given people a lot of reason to stick the latest entry in the series out, despite promises of big updates in the future.

Unsurprisingly, EA are well aware of all the complaints. As reported by TechRadar, in their latest quarterly earnings call, CEO Andrew Wilson acknowledged that there’s “more work” to do on the game.

“We take a long view here,” he said. “This is one of the great franchises in our industry, built by one of the great teams in our industry, and our expectation is that it will continue to grow and be a really important part of our portfolio for many, many years to come.

“We’ve got incredible leadership over at that team now. They’re rethinking the development process from the ground up, and really using the Vince Zampella-slash-Respawn model of ‘get to the fun as quickly as possible’.”

If you’re wondering what the heck that last bit means, let me translate. Vince Zampella is the co-founder of both COD developers Infinity Ward and Respawn (the studio behind Jedi: Fallen Order). He took over the creative control for Battlefield last December, around when Dice’s general manager, Oscar Gabrielson, left EA.

Wilson continued, singing the praises of the Battlefield team: “They’ve been doing thousands of updates for the community, working on quality of life and really getting the core game right. […] I think there's still more work for us to do there and the team is committed to doing that work for the community,” he continued. “And beyond that, once we get to a place where we feel like we're in the right place with the core experience and with the core game, then you should expect us to invest and grow beyond where the game is at today.”

So, they’re not giving up on it yet, huh? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if their extra efforts pay off - it’s going to be hard to draw players back in after all the game has been through, though. But hey, props to them for trying, I guess.
