Battlefield 6 Hits Massive Milestone We Never Saw Coming

Could this be the COD-killer?

Months before its official launch, Battlefield 6 has hit a massive milestone that we could not have seen coming.

It appears that Electronic Arts is pulling out everything it can to try and make Battlefield 6 a hit with the fans, and the direction so far is looking really good.

The game has already seen lots of positive impressions since its initial multiplayer reveal at the end of July, as well as the first open beta weekend that is currently ongoing.

As fans may have already seen, it turns out the Battlefield 6 multiplayer open beta is really popular. In fact, it’s hit a huge milestone that I would not have expected had you told me this a few weeks back.

According to SteamDB, the Battlefield 6 Open Beta hit over half a million concurrent players on Steam alone during the first beta weekend, surpassing the all-time peak player counts for every single game in the series before that.

These are just Steam numbers, of course, so it doesn’t count players playing via the EA app, as well as those on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Taking these platforms into account, it’s very likely the actual number of people playing the beta is much higher.

In fact, it also beats the records set by open betas. For example, Monster Hunter Wilds’ beta hit an all-time high of around 463,798 players on Steam, which already felt like an impossibly high number.

It's worth pointing out these numbers are just concurrent player counts too, meaning the number of people on at the same time, and they don't calculcate the total number of individual players who launched the beta over the weekend.

Hopefully these numbers will maintain themselves going into next weekend, where EA is expected to launch another two days of open beta for players to try ahead of launch.

In my own impressions of the multiplayer from earlier this month, I cited Battlefield 6’s gorgeous maps, emphasised teamplay, and classic destruction being back as a reason to put this on your radar.

Battlefield 6 is set to launch on 10th October, 2025 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
