Diablo IV has been out for a long while now and it faces that existential crisis that all live service and MMO games have to contend with - how to keep the experience fresh for the people who have been there since the beginning.

Regular updates are the way that most game developers usually do that and it works quite well for the most part, assuming the updates take the game in the right direction.

The thing about Diablo specifically is that so much of the game, for a sizeable portion of the player base, is about pushing the limits and taking on more and more difficult challenges.

Whether that means raising the difficulty of specific bosses or adding entirely new ones, Blizzard has to keep finding new ways of challenging players to keep them on the hook.

Now, a new mode is about to debut into the game that should do just that, and then some.

Solo Self-Found is Coming to Diablo 4

As first reported by Game Rant, Season 11 of Diablo IV is set to go live on the game's servers on 9 December and it's bringing with it a brand new Solo Self-Found Challenge mode, as confirmed by the developers themselves.

If you're yet to come up against Solo Self-Found as a concept, it shows up in several multiplayer games, including this one's predecessor Diablo III. Essentially, players have to go through the usual levelling experience and endgame, only without any assistance from other players. That means no trading for anything useful or teaming up with others to making challenging experiences more easy.

The cool thing about the new mode is that it serves as direct slap in the face to those who are using real world money to buy power and boosts in the regular version of the game. Here, none of those possible advantages are available to buy because you can't trade or group up, leaving those left standing as true testaments to solo prowess in the game.

It's quite an exciting time to jump in more generally, with a major expansion planned for next year, the details of which remain a mystery. We may get more on that at The Game Awards in December, which has become a bit of a staging ground for major releases in recent years, but we'll have to wait and see if that does materialise or if we have to hold on to 2026.
