Destiny 2 has been in a bit of a weird spot for a while now ever since the release of the final shape marked the end of a major narrative chapter in the game's history. Since then, it has suffered from a similar syndrome to that of Avengers: Endgame in which many fans chose to call it a day on turning out for every new cinematic release from Marvel.
With player counts lower than ever Bungie have absolutely needed to make great strides in bringing back their core base, while attracting new fans to what is an eight-year-old game.
The way they have chosen to do that is with the release of new expansion Renegades, which features an officially licensed collaboration with Star Wars that sees the two galaxies become one for the time being.
The Edge of Fate certainly didn't do enough to right the proverbial ship and this next step has all the hallmarks of a relatively similar outing. The campaign is solid, but the lack of total content additions was always likely to draw some criticism.

It turns out that absolutely has been the case, with the expansion currently receiving Mixed reviews on Steam, after an initial review bomb brought it down even lower than that.

Renegades Fails to Hit the Mark For Destiny 2 Players
Waiting through the steam reviews shows plenty of criticism for the expansion and in all fairness the grievances of many of the players have been explained eloquently and in detail, giving the developer plenty of opportunity to iterate based on that feedback.
“Like with the Edge of Fate, Renegades delivers a solid campaign experience. Also like with the Edge of Fate the faults and shortcomings of the game are the result of a very visible downgrade in the total content given throughout the expansions life span, past the campaign,” one of the reviews reads.

“The only cool thing is the lightsaber. The story is not bad, better than Edge of Fate, but that isn't saying much. In all honesty it is not worth $40. As I compare it to The Witch Queen and/or Forsaken, Renegades gameplay is not good,” another review added.
Others did feel a little differently though with some feeling that this latest effort is considerably better than the previous one. Over on Reddit one player shared their thoughts about the positive aspects of this expansion.
“The new weapons are super fun and not reskins for once. The campaign missions look fantastic and it indeed does feel like a mix between Destiny and Star Wars,” the post reads.
“So far the story isn't great, but not terrible either. I always found Destiny's storytelling lackluster, but this story so far is above average at least.”
However you may personally feel, it’s safe to say that the game isn’t in a healthy state right now, and it’s going to take something pretty major to turn it around.
As a player since day one, I’m hoping as much as anyone that they can do it.
