It’s actually been a pretty good time to be both a Star Wars and a video game fan, with plenty of offerings across several genres, set within the Galaxy Far, Far Away that George Lucas and his team created.
Star Wars Outlaws was a really solid effort at an open-world RPG from Ubisoft, hitting the mark stylistically and bringing some solid gameplay loops and mechanics to the proverbial party as well.
Equally, Battlefront II is still going relatively strong if you’re looking for fast-paced multiplayer action, while Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is still one of the better single-player releases of the last few years, particularly if you are on board with linear storytelling.
It’s really saying something, then, that there is another Star Wars release that’s better than all of those, and it’s technically a collection of mods for Bethesda’s Starfield. Star Wars Genesis is a hugely ambitious project that collates a bunch of mods into a total conversion package for Starfield, with the creator also responsible for adding a ton of their own additions to the pile.

Happily, it’s just received another major patch, and it should be a really exciting milestone for fans of the movies.

Join the Rebel Alliance
Patch 8.5.0 is now live on the official website for Star Wars Genesis, promising some enormous changes that should really elevate the experience. The first is a complete rewrite of the story, that will allow the player to join the Rebel Alliance and hunt down Saw Gerrera.

If you don’t already know, Saw Gerrera is one of the original rebels, whose tactics have caused him to labelled an extremist by some of those fighting the Empire. He first appeared in Rogue One, as the adopted father of protagonist Jyn Urso, before later showing up in Andor as well.
The patch goes much further than that, overhauling the visuals on many of Starfield’s props, making them fit in far better with the Star Wars aesthetic. Temples are now also protected by Temple Guardian bosses, who you’ll need to defeat if you want to gain the power found there.
Armour has also been tweaked under the hood, with some additional armour items added to the mod for good measure.
The developer has also added a standalone deserter story, in which the Empire is search the planet Saleucami to see if they can discover those who have left the Imperial cause. Depending on your decisions here, you can also unlock a special vendor that sells unique Clonetrooper armour.

Outside of that, there are changes to ship models, locations like Jabba’s Palace and Coruscant, as well as a litany of bug fixes that should make the playing experience even better.
If you own Starfield, it’s impossible not to recommend Star Wars Genesis as possibly the best video game experience you can have, set in that universe.
